It’s crazy how I met her in #teamDarkSkin and after some years I found it difficult trying to even have a conversation with her because her skin made me a bit uncomfortable. Why ? Because she is now #TeamLightSkin. Like I lost a friend because she turned white; I mean she was someone else, she looked like someone else, she felt like someone else and of course, she smelled like someone else. Talking to her was awkward as if I was meeting someone new.
Skin bleaching is one plague we can never completely understand because the awareness is loud, the dangers are being talked about always but people still play deaf to all of it. One thing I know is that this act is triggered by not loving oneself which could be caused by Black men and the Media.
I have heard so many black men saying light skinned girls are clean. Clean how? How is clean identified by skin color? Does that mean the dark skinned brother who says this is dirty? Since when did men determine which skin complexion is clean or dirty; I really do need answers from the men who say these things.
The media, another killer of true beauty, keeps fueling the hate for dark skin, keeps making dark skin look like a problem and this is so sad. From our movies to adverts, the love for light skin over the dark skin is so evident, which contributes to many dark skinned ladies feeling like they are not good enough. But does that mean a beautiful melanin beauty should turn “white” overnight?
Black skin is beautiful, unique and different. It’s different because of its advantages, like being less prone to sunburns, skin cancers and does not experience photoaging. So with all these advantages why would one still want to destroy their skin, baffling really ! More disturbing to even realize that some educated people who have gone through school practice this evil deeds( to me its evil, its like challenging the maker or nature ).
Just take a minute to admire these dark skinned Ghanaian Models…
Dear Black Skin girl, You are beautiful and unique. They lied about your skin being dirty! Your skin is magic. Love yourself and teach others to love themselves.
