Alright guys, so it’s time for another product review, firstly as you know I am always open to testing out new products but I have realized that sometimes there might be some dangers to that especially if it has to do with my hair or skin, I really don’t want to damage my hair or skin so for that reason I might have to turn down products.
Straight to today’s review; I received a range of products from an upcoming brand owned by a a natural hair enthusiast here in Ghana called Afro Cabello.
The range includes;
*A Rosemary and Lavender Black Soap Shampoo
*A Rosemary and Lavender Leave in Conditioner
*A Rosemary and Lavender Rinse out Conditioner
*Ultimate Grooming Oil
Honestly I had to use these products about 4 times to really understand the feel .
The first day I used the shampoo, it felt a bit weird, but later realized it was due to the fact that I had never used any black soap shampoo for my hair. Black soap shampoos are usually used by naturalistas but since I just started transitioning, I didn’t know exactly how it was supposed to feel and transitioning means having two textures of hair.
So after the 3rd use, it was clear to me that this should be used as a clarifying shampoo; This shampoo leaves your hair squeaky clean , feeling spongy and rubberlike. Note that you could actually feel your scalp and hair being clean , but I would advice anyone with dry hair to mix with some more oil before use, because the over cleanliness could actually strip the hair of its natural oil. This shampoo is really perfect for those who want to stick to natural products and those without dry hairs.
Pros : Leaves hair very clean , Healing to Scalp, Promotes hair growth.
Cons : Might strip oil off dry hair.
When it comes to using conditioners its always about the manageability, it being able to soften and even repair the hair. There were two types of conditioners from this brand, the leave in and the rinse out.
The rinse out conditioner as compared to the leave in conditioner is what I really enjoyed, it was not hundred 100%, but what I really enjoyed was the the minty feeling on my scalp. It did not soften my hair like other conditioners I have used in the past but it did define my curls when applied and rinsed off. It looks a bit lighter compared to the Leave in conditioner.
Pros: Defines Curl, Minty (Cooling on Scalp) , Smells so good, Lightweight.
Cons : Not good for Transitioning hair, manageability isn’t much, it was a bit difficult to comb through.
The Leave – In Conditioner which contains exactly the same ingredients as the Rinse – out conditioner ( Distilled water, Emulsifier, Herbal Extracts , Vitamins and Essential Oil) is a bit thicker felt more like a body lotion but has more oil as compared to the Rinse -Out.
Pros : Moisturizes ,Detangles and a little manageability .
Cons : Really Thick , Feels like body lotion.
The Ultimate grooming oil is my fav, because of the diverse uses : oil rinse, massages, hot oil treatment, etc…
This is good for both your skin and your hair. Its a mixture of Castor oil, Avocado oil, Neem Oil and Tea Tree oil. Although these are all good oils, to heal, repair, and protect the skin and hair, I’d advice not to use on face as this might clog pores of sensitive skin. I mixed it up in my spray bottle and also apply it straight to my hair for detangling before washing .
Pro: Multi purpose, Rich , Good for hair and skin, Can be mixed in Black Soap Shampoo
Cons : None
