Over the weekend I had to support a friend and sister at the 40 under 40 awards held at the plush Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel. It was a black tie event and had so many dignitaries who attended.
Interestingly what caught my attention wasn’t the glitz and glam nor the fashion and food but the fact that we were all gathered under one roof to celebrate young Ghanaians making an impact in the society through their different industries .
The Minister for Business Development Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, was also present and of course delivered a speech in which he urged young people to take advantage of opportunities to create more businesses and expand the economy and not to be content. Contentment is deceitful. He also added that learning has no end, so learn and add value to what you do.
The peak of night was when my girl Rebecca Donkor, CEO of Makeup Ghana won for the Beauty and Lifestyle category; which I will say is a well deserved award not because she is a friend but because she has put in work to contribute and add some relevance to the Ghanaian Beauty Industry.
I remember when she told me about this venture, it all seemed small, l but one thing about her is that she always see a bigger picture in every goal she sets for herself. Makeup Ghana started on Social media then to organizing awards, beauty fairs and now it’s a household name which has created jobs and opportunities for so many people. Now that’s an empire in the making. This just teaches us to believe in our dreams, no harm in starting small and focus on the bigger picture always. Congratulations to her and be inspired .
And Oh, Congratulations to the other winners of the night.
